• “A Personal Proposal from the Participant that will cover an area of interest related to the development of ‘Skills for Sustainable Futures’ that they wish to pursue independently.”
    - Training agreement with BEAM, 3Si & EDDEA.

During my diploma in architecture my final year project and written thesis focused on our relationship with nature, current architectural design approaches within the industry and how we can relearn valuable lessons from vernacular architecture. I concluded that we could create a responsive architecture through 'conscience & memory' understanding our local context and history and focusing on 'respect and response' in line with the principles of Biomimicry. Simply put ‘Biomimicry’ is the process of learning from nature to improve manmade design, both in technology and methodology. I believe by combining this with knowledge from local communities, arts and culture we can develop a design approach which will facilitate positive and sustainable change.

    (1) Conscience & Memory: throughout Seville

Identify successful sustainable, vernacular & innovative architecture in Seville; understand the ongoing social, climatic conditions and context in which it is created. Explore the history and development of these processes. Record this process through my blog www.tenweeksinseville.co.uk

    (2) Respect & Response: within EDDEA

Identify a live site/project based in Seville within my placement practice EDDEA that could benefit/is benefitting from the process of learning from nature, vernacular experience and innovative design.
Working in collaboration with a range of skilled professional to explore these design solutions in practice.

    (3) Conclusion:

Through my blog I will be able to trace a path of learning through my interaction with the city, my placement practice and keep a record of my ongoing exploration into innovative design approaches in architecture.

  • Orange & Green Placement January 2013

    The Programme

Orange and Green II is a transnational programme funded by the European Union’s Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme, that will involve 27 individuals wishing to develop their knowledge and understanding of sustainable design, the built environment and the role that culture and the arts has in creating more sustainable place making.

Participants will receive support in the UK prior to spending 10 weeks in either Cordoba or Seville with Spanish employers (Hosts) commencing in January or April 2013.

The programme is more than a work placement, and in particular we are seeking to recruit individuals who want to immerse themselves in the culture of Spain and give as much to their colleagues and to their hosts as they will receive.

Flights, accommodation and an allowance towards other subsistence costs will be provided. Additional support is available for those who consider themselves to be disabled, to enable to take part in the programme.

    Who can Apply?
If you are an EU passport holder (other than Spanish), resident in the UK and part of the labour market (employed, self-employed or looking for work), are an artist, built environment professional, engineer or someone whose work effects the places we live in; and you have a passion for creating a sustainable society we want to hear from you.

    How to Apply?
Candidates are asked to submit an application detailing areas of specific interest and what they hope to gain from the placement.

    Deadline
