• Personal Placement Proposal

“A Personal Proposal from the Participant that will cover an area of interest related to the development of ‘Skills for Sustainable Futures’ that they wish to pursue independently.”

During my diploma in architecture my final year project and written thesis focused on our relationship with nature, current architectural design approaches within the industry and how we can relearn valuable lessons from vernacular architecture. I concluded that we could create a responsive architecture through 'conscience & memory' understanding our local context and history and focusing on 'respect and response' in line with the principles of Biomimicry. Simply put ‘Biomimicry’ is the process of learning from nature to improve manmade design, both in technology and methodology. I believe by combining this with knowledge from local communities, arts and culture we can develop a design approach which will facilitate positive and sustainable change.
